Kefir

The pomegranate is best if you ask me.

So what is kefir?  Someone really smart said this "Kefir’s tart and refreshing flavor is similar to a drinking-style yogurt, but it contains beneficial yeast as well as friendly ‘probiotic’ bacteria found in yogurt. The naturally occurring bacteria and yeast in kefir combine symbiotically to give superior health benefits when consumed regularly. It is loaded with valuable vitamins and minerals and contains easily digestible complete proteins."

Pretty much, kefir contains both probiotics(like many yogurts), but ALSO contains yeast, which is highly beneficial for our bodies.  Plus, the probiotics in it knock yogurts out of the park.  It's like yogurt on crack!  Kefir is like drinking yogurt as it's much thinner.  It's something that you can drink in a glass or add to smoothies.

Here are the benefits of regular kefir use:

  • Because of it's complete nutrition, it contributes to a healthy immune sytem, which helps with numerous immune health problems including chronic fatigue syndrome, herpes and cancer(to name a few).
  • It's tranquilizing effect on the nervous system has helped people with sleep disorders, ADHD and depression.
  • It can help with unhealthy food cravings because of it's complete nutrition.
  • Its excellent nutritional content offers healing and health-maintenance benefits to people in every type of condition.

You can buy kefir, but you can also make it with these nasty looking kefir grains.

Kefir is not a cure all, nothing is.  But, our guts are the center of how we feel and how our body is going to operate.  It is extremely important for us to keep our intestines healthy and full of the "bugs" it needs to keep things moving the way they need to and in order to absorb the nutrients from our food properly.

I would highly suggest you add kefir in to your health repetoire.

If you are interested in making your own kefir, there are a ton of sites that can lead you in the right direction.  Just remember that you want to use good ingredients for a superb product.

  1. Mmmm...I think I'm going to go pour myself a glass instead of eating another bite of this gigantic chocolate bar.
